What You Need to Make Valentine’s Day Oreo Pops

Ingredients to make Valentine's Day Oreo pops including white and pink melting wafers, Oreos, Valentine's sprinkles, and lollipop sticks.

  • 1 package of Oreo cookies

I recommend using Mega Stuf or Double Stuf Oreos to make it easier to insert the pop stick.

  • Chocolate

I used white chocolate and colored candy melts. You can also use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and semi-sweet chocolate.

  • Sprinkles

I used sprinkles for Valentine’s Day, but you can use any sprinkles, chopped nuts, or candy pieces you like.

  • Pop sticks

  • Other helpful items

Microwaveable bowls, spoons, cookie sheet, parchment paper or silicone mat, lollipop bags (optional), pastry bag or plastic baggie (optional)

How to Make Valentine’s Day Oreo Pops

First, gather your ingredients and other helpful items.

Melt the Chocolate:

Next, choose the chocolate that you want to work with first and place it in a microwaveable bowl. If you are using chocolate chips add a little canola oil (about 2 teaspoons) to the chocolate before microwaving it. This with help thin out the chocolate making it easier for dipping the Oreos.

On high heat, microwave the chocolate in 30-second increments… 30-seconds, stir, 30-seconds, stir, until it’s completely melted and smooth. (If you prefer not to use the microwave, you can also melt the chocolate using a double boiler on the stove.)

Insert the Pop Sticks:

Then, once the chocolate is melted, dip the pop stick in up to about a half-inch and slide it into the white Oreo stuffing about halfway through. Press the two cookie sides together at the same time to ensure they stay together.

Place the Oreos with the pop sticks in them on a cookie sheet and refrigerate them for about 10 minutes so the chocolate sets (firms up) and the sticks stay in place. Give the sticks a wiggle before removing the Oreos from the fridge. If they move too much give them some more time in the refrigerator (up to 20-30 minutes). It’s important the sticks are set so the Oreos stay on when you dip them in chocolate.

Dip the Oreos in Chocolate and Decorate:

Finally, it’s time to dip the Oreos in chocolate. Be sure to dip them straight in and out so that they are fully covered. You can also use a narrow glass for dipping rather than a bowl. However, if you microwave the chocolate to use in a glass, please make sure the glass is also microwave safe.  If you prefer, you can also dip the Oreos only halfway.

Hold the Oreos over the chocolate for a bit to let the excess drip off.

Now, it’s time to decorate the Oreo pops! This is where you can get creative and have fun. While the chocolate is still wet, add the sprinkles. You can shake the sprinkles on or put them in a bowl and gently press the chocolate-covered Oreos into them.

Place the decorated Oreo pops on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat and refrigerate them again for about 20-30 minutes.

Special occasions or any day:

Although my Oreo pops were made specifically for Valentine’s Day, the beauty of these sweet treats is you can make them for any occasion or for no occasion at all. They are perfect to serve at a Super Bowl party with colored sprinkles matching the team colors, at a birthday party, for St. Patricks Day, Easter, the Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. What I love about these Oreo pops is they are a wonderful and fun treat for any day!

Decorations:

Oreo pop decorations are not limited to only sprinkles. You can also add chopped nuts (almonds and pecans are delicious), coconut flakes, more chocolate drizzle, candy pieces (crushed candy cane, mini M&Ms, or toffee bars), and even mini marshmallows. The sky’s the limit! Have fun and get creative.

Cookies:

The beauty of this sweet treat is that you can use any cookie you like, including Vanilla or Gluten-Free Double Stuff Oreos.
