Decking the Farmhouse Halls

Decor, Farm Life, Interior Design

“Christmas isn’t a season. It’s a feeling.” -Edna Ferber  It’s officially the most wonderful time of the year and it’s time to deck the halls y’all!

With each passing year the kids get older (sadly, so do I) and I find myself decorating with more purpose and less decor. My focus now centers around  decorating with things that I already use in the farmhouse throughout the year. When I’m out shopping, I’m always thinking of how I can use a piece in our home in my everyday styling and also during holidays. By having neutral essential pieces in the farmhouse, I can easily add seasonal and festive holiday touches. Not only is this an easy way to style your home season by season, but it’s also very affordable.

Trays are wonderful decor pieces to have in your home. They are so fun to style, especially during the holidays. Not only do they add beauty and sweet holiday touches to a room, but they are easy to change out and move around. These trays took me less than 10 minutes to style and they can be used on a coffee table, a breakfast table, a kitchen island, or an entry table.I love to decorate with garland during the Christmas season. Garland is a wonderful way to add Christmas cheer throughout your home while at the same time avoiding that cluttered feel. I love that garland makes a big statement without being in the way of everyday life. Typically, garland is hung on staircases, mantels, bed frames, shelves, and thresholds. Garland varies in price, size, and style. It can be thin, while other garland can be very full. Some garlands can come with lights, flowers, berries, glass ornaments, and more, while other garlands can be very simple greens. I usually use a combination of fresh and faux garland in the farmhouse depending on what I can find at the nurseries. Nothing beats the smell of fresh pine at Christmastime! If you’ve been following me here for awhile then you know that creating a cozy and inviting feel at the farmhouse is always my goal. I love to do this by using My Four Favorites: blankets, florals, candles and pillows. In the winter and especially during the holidays there is nothing that says “cozy” more than a chunky knit throw blanket. I also try to add a cozy feel by adding more texture in rooms through knit pillows. Festive pillows are another fun and beautiful way to celebrate the season or a holiday.Blanket ladders are a great way to store throw blankets when they aren’t being used. They also create a cozy feel in a room. I love to use blanket ladders as decor pieces in the farmhouse. I hang wreaths from them, add garland, and string lights on them. They are so fun and functional throughout the year!Lanterns are another accessory I use inside and outside the farmhouse throughout the year. You know I love candles and lanterns are the perfect way to use candlelight in a space while adding a rustic farmhouse feel. They look beautiful on tabletops, on shelves, on porches, and steps. Finally, switching up the bedding in the farmhouse bedrooms is another wonderful way I celebrate the holidays. Using neutral or white bedding is my favorite, that way I can add pops of color through holiday decor (such as pillows, blankets, garland, flowers, or trees). Our white ruffle bedding and reversible floral and striped bedding are some of my favorites. I hope you find these decorating tips, ideas, and sources useful when you decorate your home throughout the year and especially during the holidays. Most importantly, remember to enjoy the process. Sometimes decorating can feel overwhelming and stressful. It doesn’t have to feel that way. Adding seasonal touches to items you have in your home year round is an easy and great way to enhance them for the holidays. Taking the stress out of decorating allows you to enjoy all the special moments of the holidays with family and friends. Happy decorating and Merry Christmas from our home to yours.
