Homemade Gifts for the One’s You Love
This year I am all about easy and thoughtful gifts for family and friends. For those who can use the gift of relaxation, homemade peppermint bath salts are perfect. The home decor lovers in my life will love a DIY wood farmhouse tray or a riser to style in their home. Finally, the bakers and cooks that I know and love will be head over heels for homemade vanilla extract.
What about the coffee and cocoa drinkers in my life? Which of course, there are several! For them, I have an incredibly thoughtful and deliciously sweet gift idea this year. Wait until you see how easy it is to make chocolate-dipped spoons!
What You Need
All you need are three things to make chocolate-dipped spoons. Can you believe it!? Three things!
- Spoons (I used these spoons. I got 4 spoons as a set for a great price!) I also love these vintage silver hand-stamped spoons.
- Chocolate Melting Wafers (I used dark chocolate and white chocolate.)
- Candies (I used crushed candy canes and toffee pieces.)
How to Make Chocolate Dipped Spoons
Now that you have what you need, it’s time to make these delectable spoons. First, melt the chocolate according to the package directions. I’m all about easy, so I melted the chocolates in the microwave. Next, dip the spoons in the chocolate, coating both sides.
Place the spoons on a baking sheet lined with wax or parchment paper. Then, sprinkle the candies on the chocolate (on the top side of the spoon) quickly before the chocolate sets.
Allow the chocolate on the spoons to set or chill them for 5-10 minutes. Once the chocolate is set, wrap the top of the spoons with lollipop bags to keep them fresh. Tie them off with a fun and festive bow. So fun and easy, aren’t they!?
How to Make Chocolate Dipped Spoons – Helpful Hints
Melting wafers – I used chocolate melting wafers instead of making chocolate ganache. They melt perfectly, are smooth and creamy, and set beautifully. If you want to make your own ganache you certainly can, but melting wafers make dipping chocolate spoons super quick and easy.
Wooden spoon – I placed a wooden spoon upside down on top of the parchment paper on the cookie sheet. This helped to prop up the handles of the spoons after they were dipped in chocolate to help the chocolate set. I found that the chocolate tended to pool toward the back of the spoon too much before it set when I didn’t prop up the handles a bit.
Not too hot – Dipping spoons in chocolate was also easier when the chocolate wasn’t too hot. I found that when it was just melted (a little above room temperature) it was perfect for the sprinkles to stick to the chocolate before setting while at the same time allowing for the chocolate to set quickly.
Get Creative
Don’t be afraid to get creative when making your chocolate-dipped spoons. With the base coat of chocolate on the spoon, you can use different kinds of chocolate to make a drizzle pattern or use a toothpick to swirl two types of chocolate. You can also get creative with the candies. Use crushed-up candy canes, toffee pieces, mini marshmallows, raw sugar, and even sprinkles. Just remember, whatever you use to decorate your chocolate-dipped spoons will eventually end up in the beverage being stirred with them. Be sure whatever you use is something that will melt. Nuts are not the best idea because they sink to the bottom.
Gifting
There are so many ways to gift these sweet chocolate-dipped spoons. My favorite way is to tie them onto a Christmas mug or a winter mug with a seasonal ribbon.
Another thoughtful idea is tying chocolate-dipped spoons to a gift card for your loved one’s favorite coffee shop.
These also make a sweet treat when getting together for Friendsgiving or at Christmastime. Chocolate-dipped spoons make the perfect small gift for your friends and family to use when they are over at your home as a guest. They can use them in the morning or after dinner for their coffee or tea and then take them home with them. Hosts and hostesses will love them too!
